Extraction of oil mist and aerosols

Extraction of oil mist and aerosols

Application description

PROBLEMS OF OIL MIST AND AEROSOL EXTRACTION PROCESS

Oil mist extraction is an application characteristic of CNC machining using cooling emulsion. When machining with high-speed tools, a large amount of thermal energy is released and for this reason, a cooling emulsion is used to cool the tool and the workpiece. In a CNC machine, the cooling emulsion is sprayed into an aerosol formed by microdroplets of cooling emulsion. At the same time, evaporation of the emulsion occurs due to high temperatures during machining. The evaporation of the emulsion produces oil vapour. In the absence of CNC machine exhaust, the oil emulsion and vapours are spread into the production hall through leaks in the machine enclosure.

Oil mist extraction can be implemented locally, where each CNC machine is equipped with its own oil mist separator. For central extraction of oil mist from a group of machines, central aerosol separators are used, equipped with an extraction fan with the possibility of controlling the extraction power. We install automatically controlled dampers on the individual extraction machines, which are controlled according to the CNC machine used. The extraction piping for the oil mist extraction system must be of a tight design so that oil condensate does not flow through the piping joints.

Mechanical Nebula Separation

The devices are designed for the separation of emulsion mists produced during machining. The principle of separating oil droplets from the air is mechanical. The device does not need any disposable filters. Aerosols are separated by means of stainless steel fabric and zeolite filters. The device is supplied as a compact unit with a fan for immediate connection. The unit is supplied with both left and right hand inlet versions. The bottom is constructed as a watertight oil sump with a sleeve for connection of the separated emulsion drain hose. All filter inserts can be cleaned and no disposable cartridges are required. Mechanical mist eliminators can be used on CNC machining centres as local extraction, on emulsion cooled grinders and on multi-machine assemblies as central extraction.

Central mist extraction

Not only emulsion separation but also odour elimination is important.

The oil mist is specific for its grease, moisture and odour component. In central extraction systems for larger workshops, it is most efficient to equip the central extraction system with small mist separators with condensate drainage back to the machine. Connect all the droplet separators via a central pipe and then lead the air free of oil or emulsion liquid but containing the odour component to the recovery unit. In the recovery unit, the extracted air passes on the heat to the fresh air being drawn in. In this way, the liquid component is removed and returned to the machine and fresh air is then supplied to the workplace and the workplace is ventilated. Please note that neither mechanical nor electrostatic precipitators can eliminate the odour component of the extracted air.
