PROBLEMS OF THE EXTRACTION PROCESS IN ALUMINIUM CUTTING
When aluminium is cut with saw blades, a large amount of aluminium sawdust is produced. With powerful automatic cutting machines, the volume of aluminium sawdust is so large that it is not possible to remove the sawdust from the machine manually for efficient production and the removal is handled by extraction systems. The extraction system ensures a constant draft in the extraction line so that the aluminium filings do not settle inside the machine and in the extraction line. The filtration system is equipped with a large separation chamber which acts as an intermediate storage of the extracted sawdust.
The extraction system is designed to be resistant to the effects of the extracted cooling emulsion. It is recommended that the outlet of the filtered air be routed outside the production hall, but if a secondary filtration stage is used, the filtered air can be returned to the hall. The exhaust ductwork must be smooth, flanged so that sawdust is not caught on the sharp points of rivets or self-tapping screws.
Although it is an aluminium material whose dust is highly explosive, the captured sawdust mixture, due to the size of its fraction, does not form an explosive mixture with air. Aluminum filings tend to clump together and form vaults when they touch each other. The separated waste is very bulky and low in specific gravity. To compact the sawdust, a briquetting press can be installed under the filter unit to compress the bulky sawdust into compacted aluminium briquettes.
Resistant to material crimping even in continuous cutting processes
The filtering equipment for aluminium sawdust extraction is of a very specific design. The filter media are smooth, flat tubes, positioned vertically. The regeneration of the hoses is carried out by means of pressurized air. The specific feature of this filter is the elimination of any internal baffles, reinforcements or any barriers that would contribute to the formation of aluminium slag arches. A very important design feature is the large gap between each filter hose. For this application we have specially adapted the design of the G&G Flat HOUSE filter units.
