Separation of cuttings using a rotary separator

For our client, we solved a dust problem with a scrap press. We designed, fabricated and installed a rotary separator that is mounted on its own steel structure directly above the press inlet. The press is equipped with its own vacuum pump that draws the offcuts from the intermediate hopper.

The separation of the cuttings takes place on the internal screen of the separator, which is regenerated by the wiper blades of the separator rotor. The dust particles continue on to the filtration system. The cuttings fall down into the intermediate hopper below the separator. We develop products for the paper industry together with our partner company Golpretech Czech Republic.

For the implementation we used a paper scrap separator of the RSGG type manufactured by us - the intermediate hopper was designed and engineered to suit the application. The result of our implementation is a dust-free area around the waste baler.

Description of rotary separators

Rotary separators are used to continuously separate paper cuttings from the exhaust air. They are an important component of extraction applications in printing plants.  The paper cuttings are captured on a perforated screen and continuously wiped off by the wiper blades of the separator rotor. The separator rotor provides both continuous wiping of the captured cuttings and pressure separation of the cuttings discharge from the air handling system. The separator is capable of operating in continuous mode 24/7. The discharge of separated paper cuttings is connected to a baler or baling press as standard. The attachment of the paper trim separator is solved by placing it on the outlet channel by means of a connecting flange. In printing plants with a requirement for complete unmanned operation, we suggest processing the waste using a baling press or using two parallel paper separators with outlets to baling presses. In the case of using paper balers, only one of the two installed separators is always running. When the container is full, the system automatically redirects the paper waste path to the second separator by means of switching flaps.
